About The Event

@trees_of_ahmedabad stands as a collaborative, community-driven initiative fueled by crowdfunding, uniting volunteers in a shared mission to meticulously map the city’s trees. The mapping of street trees not only sheds light on canopy gaps but also strategically identifies areas for targeted plantation efforts. This approach, grounded in considerations such as tree density, species diversity, and environmental factors like ecology and pollution, facilitates scientifically informed planning. In tandem with public trees, the initiative is diligently crafting a heritage tree map that catalogues noteworthy trees throughout Ahmedabad, spanning various locations, including institutional campuses. A recent achievement includes the successful mapping of street trees within the Thaltej municipal zone, covering approximately half a square kilometer. Over 600 trees have been meticulously documented, and the resulting GIS map is now readily accessible online. The ongoing efforts extend to mapping the notable trees of the CN campus. Beyond mapping, Trees of Ahmedabad encompasses an advocacy group, where legal professionals have volunteered to contribute to updating tree-related laws.
