K.K. Hebbar and M.F. Hussain, two prominent painters and a leading sculptor, A.M. Davierwalla, participate in a debate about the evolution of fine arts in India, and the struggles and preoccupations of these artists. The film also narrates the contribution of institutions such as the Lalit Kala Academy, established in 1954. Artistic horizons have widened through national exhibitions, state exhibitions and cultural exchanges, drawing traditions into the contemporary to the unknown shores.
