Embrace the opportunity to learn โMata ni Pachchediโ, a revered 400-year-old craft from Jagdish Chitara and Sunil Chitara, whose aim is to preserve India’s rich artistic heritage. Whether you are an artist at heart or simply curious, this workshop will bring a blending tradition with personal expression to create vibrant designs that tell a story.
Let’s explore the intricate process with block printing and unleash your creativity through colour and imagination.
Born in 1972, Jagdish hails from the Aghar village, near Ahmedabad. He is an artist part of the Devipujak community (Vaghari) of Gujarat. He practices the traditional art of the nomadic Vaghari community, โMata ni Pachchediโ. The art involves the practice of creating painted illustrations of a piece of cloth to be then offered to the Goddess. Jagdish has also illustrated a book (The Great Race, Tara Books) using the fine Mata ni Pachchedi style of ritual textile painting.
