We are thrilled to announce that ‘Galiyon ka Sheher’ will be screened at Arthshila Ahmedabad followed by a discussion with the filmmakers Modak KS and Madhurima Khadilkar on Saturday, 18 June 2022 at 6.30 pm.
‘Galiyon ka Sheher’ offers a look at the implications of the recent development projects in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh through the perspectives of the city’s residents. It explores themes of religiosity, citizen-state engagement, development, urban land rights, and socio-cultural dynamics in the city. The evolving notions of modernity that this film explores shed vital light on the current social and political climate of Varanasi. It is a glimpse into how individual citizens are impacted by government decisions taken far away.
The documentary was screened at the Dharamshala International Film Festival and won the runner-up prize for short documentary at the Jaipur International Film Festival.
