Cinema and the Persistence of the Nation” — This talk by Madhuja Mukherjee is anchored around the screening of Manthan (1976). Mukherjee discusses how Shyam Benegal’s views aligned with the idea of Nehruvian development and in what way the film’s recent restoration makes the question of the nation pertinent.

Madhuja Mukherjee is a visual artist, filmmaker and Professor of Film Studies at Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
