Join us for a Book Reading Session on ‘Palestine by Joe Sacco’ with Anjal Patel this Sunday at 11.30 am.

The session commences with an introduction to the author and an overview that situates the book within its context. The discussion delves into the author’s perspective on journalism, illustrated through examples drawn from book excerpts. Each chosen excerpt or story will be dissected, exploring the nuanced techniques of narration and diverse interpretations of representation the author employs, establishing a link with readers’ viewpoints. The author’s manipulation of techniques to evoke emotions identical to characters’ sentiments, alongside his orchestration of rhythm, hierarchy, and pacing through the interplay of captions and drawings to give the reader a first-hand experience. The session will also introduce a practical dimension, engaging participants in a storytelling exercise via comics. Drawing from insights gathered earlier, attendees will craft a comic strip for a story from their memory.

Anjal Patel is an architect and academician, currently positioned as an assistant professor in Navrachana University, Vadodara. Anjal has worked with Studio One by Ar. Ganesh Bala in Auroville and now has recently established her own firm. Apart from being an architect and a tutor, she is a traveler, an observer, and a critical thinker of the society which allowed her to fascinate in the world of the narration and visualization of stories found around us.
