As a part of the Takshila Fine Arts Fellowship 2024, six artists from around the country had the opportunity to develop their artistic practice by re-engaging in research and exploration of their chosen materials and sites of practice. Working with a range of materials — found objects, images, news articles, stories, interviews, and poetry from their everyday lives — they employ both personal and reflective processes to bring forth artworks that visibilize, question, analyze, critique, archive, document, and bear witness. For these six artists, materials transcend being a mere medium and become a tool to embody their ideas, as well as a metaphor for their concepts. The fellowship facilitated their research and, through a mentorship programme, enabled reflection on the collected material and their practice.

The Takshila Fine Arts Scholarship, endowed in 2022, is a reflection of Takshila’s commitment to shared ecologies and materials. Our artists span a diversity of geographies, languages, and forms; they stand united in their compassion for the fields of engagement and deep-rooted inquiries of their subjects. It is an honour for us to have been a part of their journeys, and we look forward to many future collaborations with them.
