About Making Space:
Alsana lives in a small but chaotic neighbourhood in Ahmedabad. In a place like this, a room of one’s own is hard to come by but Alsana has been given a corner. Only her own rules apply here.
Nikita Parikh has worked with children for many years, travelling to classrooms across the country while working with Teach For India. During her Masters’ degree in Education at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, she started researching and using participatory media with teenagers. As a filmmaker, she is driven by creating understanding, empathy and change.
About A Night Of Knowing Nothing:
L, a university student in India, writes letters to her estranged lover, while he is away. Through these letters, we get a glimpse into the drastic changes taking place around her. Merging reality with fiction, dreams, memories, fantasies and anxieties, an amorphous narrative unfolds.
Payal Kapadia is a Mumbai-based filmmaker and artist whose work explores memory, dreams, and the quiet strength of the everyday. A graduate of the Film & Television Institute of India, her films have screened at Cannes, Berlin, IDFA, and other major festivals. Her debut feature, A Night of Knowing Nothing, won the L’Œil d’or at Cannes 2021, and her latest All We Imagine as Light, was awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes 2024. This year, she is back at the festival, donning a new hat as part of the Feature Films Jury at Cannes.
