Pari
A film by Priya Sen
31 mins | Hindi (English Subtitles) | 2023

Pari attempts to describe an event in the days of Pari and Praveen, a violent rupture that allowed in a life held by desire and not duty. In this film, they recount their love story against the undertones and backdrop of threat and violence. The present is both fraught and romantic; the disruption of a past moment finds momentary comfort in recall; the future is hopeful.

Umbri
A film by Prachee Bajania
34 mins | Gujarati, Hindi (English Subtitles) | 2024

Umbro, the threshold of a home, is the liminal space that speaks to the lives of women, including the filmmaker’s mother and her friends who live in the small town of Dhrangadhra in central Gujarat, India. The film explores joyful friendships among women, often dismissed and unsung – carrying in them moments of shared stories, solidarities, conflicts, and, most of all, routine acts of resistance. Umbro attempts to locate these flights of desire in the everyday, while celebrating the womenโ€™s indomitable love for life and each other.

๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ท๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฎ is a filmmaker, editor, and writer from Gujarat. An alumna of NID Ahmedabad and FTII Pune, she has been making films since 2011. Her work is informed by her interest in history, poetry, and everyday life. Umbro (The Threshold) has won awards at the 14th Beijing International Film Festival and IDSFFK 2024. Her films have screened at several national and international festivals and institutions.

๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ต ๐—˜๐—ฑ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜€ enables, mentors, produces, and disseminates imaginative documentary films that explore diverse, intersecting, and complex realities, boldly informed by feminist and queer politics and a commitment to social justice. Through the making and sharing of films, it aspires engagements with intention, perspective, process, form, and expression, and how they resonate in a structurally intricate and unequal world.

๐—œ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ showcases films, stories, and conversations that explore interconnected gendered experiences, celebrating diverse desires, resistances, and solidarities. Developed through the Rough Edges Uncode Fellowships, these works reflect on patriarchies, intersecting identities, and the politics of framing womenโ€™s everyday lives.
