From the early twentieth century to the present, the cantaram, once considered a side show of tiatr, has embodied the essence of Goa and evolved into a powerful cultural force beyond the stage. This documentary traces its journey from live performance to records, radio, and social media, focusing on the works of C. Alvares, Remmie Colaso, and Jacinto Vaz, and highlighting its enduring significance today.
Nalini Elvino de Souza is deeply engaged in education and media, directing, anchoring, and producing series for Portuguese international and national television through Lotus Film and TV Production, while also managing and teaching Portuguese at the NGO Communicare Trust. A recent Master’s graduate in Ethnomusicology, she created the documentary Kantar Goa based on her research at Aveiro University’s INET md department.
