Join us for Kannooru Live, a sonic live performance by Imaad Majeed at Arthshila Goa.
DETAILS
Date: 6 December | Saturday
Time: 7.30 PM Onwards
This performance is in conjunction with the exhibition opening of AUTOPOIESIS: A Song for Resuscitation, and Tracing a Genre-Defying Practice a talk by Jahangir Jani in conversation with Shaunak Mahbubani.
Imaad Majeed debuts new sonic works based on the rare archive Folk Songs of the Muslims of Sri Lanka, commissioned by their grandaunt Jezima Ismail. The compositions respond to themes of epistemic violence and wounded archives, reviving erased Muslim folk forms through electronic re-circulation. Blending Sufi sonics, devotional traces, and archived women’s voices, Imaad enacts a small act of resuscitation and imagines a distinctly queer futurity.
Imaad Majeed is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and curator whose work engages with language, identity, and public space in post-war Sri Lanka through multilingual, collective storytelling and sonic practice. They direct the performance platform KACHA KACHA, are part of The Packet collective, and currently develop KANNOORU, a sample-based project on Sri Lankan Sufi and Muslim memory and mysticism.
