This two-day, hands-on workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to the art of documentary filmmaking. Participants will explore both the technical foundations and deeper creative motivations behind nonfiction storytelling.

Day 1 focuses on the how and what of filmmaking, covering the key phases of production (pre-production, production, post-production), core visual and audio elements, and the diverse forms documentaries can take. We also examine the ethical considerations involved when working with real people and stories.

Day 2 turns to the why of filmmaking, emphasising personal voice, creative decision-making, and the emotional and ethical impact of editing. Through collaborative discussions, visual assignments, and peer feedback, participants will gain practical tools, critical insights, and inspiration to tell meaningful, authentic stories.

This workshop is ideal for beginners and emerging filmmakers seeking a thoughtful, supportive environment to begin or deepen their practice.
