In collaboration with Ahad Anhad, Asia Pacific Crafts Alliance, Crafts Council of India, and Delhi Crafts Council, Arthshila presents The Continuing Threadline, the keynote exhibition of Sui Dhaga, curated by Sujata Prasad and Oroon Das.
Bringing together a remarkable range of embroidered forms, the exhibition explores embroidery as both an artistic language and a social archive, recording memory, identity, migration, belief, and everyday life. Through intricate stitches, diverse materials, patterns, and techniques, it traces the movement of ideas and skills across regions, communities, and generations.
Rooted in women’s labour, inherited knowledge, and an intimate understanding of materials and the environment, embroidery reflects the ingenuity of its makers and the contexts in which they work. The exhibition examines how these practices are sustained and reinterpreted, as traditional techniques encounter contemporary design sensibilities and new forms of expression.
As part of the wider Sui Dhaga festival, the exhibition is accompanied by a programme of performances, conversations, and other cultural engagements that bring artisans, practitioners, and audiences into dialogue. Together, the exhibition and its accompanying programme position embroidery within broader discussions of design intelligence, cultural exchange, and economic possibility, inviting audiences to consider embroidered human inheritance as an evolving continuum across the Asia-Pacific—connecting diverse histories and lived experiences while opening new possibilities for the future of craft.
