About the Panel Discussion

As part of Pride Month, the Australian Consulate-General, Kolkata and Arthshila are proud to present ‘Hridoy Basak – A Home for My Heart’.  The film details Sudeb’s lived experience as she undergoes her journey of transition.  The panel will discuss both Indian and Australian lived experiences with members of the transgender community.

About the movie

Directed by Sankhajit Biswas. The film depicts an intimate portrayal of Sudden Suvana, a transgender, who undergoes Gender Affirmative Surgery in order to gain appreciation as a ‘real woman’. However, this decision creates turmoil in her family, who fear societal backlash. As love remains elusive as always, she realizes that the surgery hasn’t changed her destiny as a transgender, forcing her to reconcile with reality anew.
