MUSTANG
This presentation by Sujoy Das through photographs and video clips covers one of the last Shangri-las in the Himalaya. A lost kingdom bordering Tibet which has a regulated entry of not more than three thousand visitors per year with magnificent monasteries, frescoes, palaces and a way of life which would soon vanish forever. In the monasteries of Lo Manthang, masked dance festivals are held on auspicious days with fervour. The music accompanying the dances echoes the limitlessness of time and space in the heart of the mystic Himalaya where reincarnation connects us through eternity. The presentation portrays this fine line of development on one hand with the religious and cultural practices on the other in the hope that the people of Mustang will be able to keep their heritage intact.
